It's Time To Melt The ICE

I’m in staunch opposition of Geo Facility operating in Baldwin, Michigan and in any other community across the state. People are scared. Those who are not, should be. We are witnessing the collapse of the principles of justice that guarantee liberty for all. There needs to be investigations. How many of the facility’s detainees’ rights have been violated? Were they given (read) their Miranda Rights? Were they afforded a Writ of Habeas Corpus which is a bedrock principle of constitutional democracies, that protect against unlawful detention?

In other words, Habeas Corpus states that people who are detained by the government, have both a legal and constitutional right to challenge their subsequent apprehension. The government’s responsibility is to prove the detention is lawful. If the government fails, the person must be set free.

We know that this administration is playing games with the Constitution. Grabbing people out of their cars, homes, places of work without a warrant signed by a judge is unconstitutional. It is more than concerning that for some people, such acts may have to take place in their community, before fully understanding the illegality of it all.

Now that you’ve been detained, your captors set out to find evidence that may justify their kidnapping of you. In the meantime you are languishing in a detention center, separated from your classmates, family, friends and co-workers. This state sanctioned violence against White Americans has not been legal in the United States since the British signed the treaty of American Independence in 1783. What they are doing (the government) is anti-foundational to our Democracy.

I’ve listened and heard the argument on whether an ICE Detention Center is a good, or bad thing for our community. The answers given has mostly hinged on the facility’s ability to generate money. For me it is a juxtaposition of making money verses tearing families apart. Can money make one compromise their humanity? I’ve always believed “If one wants to know what is moral, verses immoral (right v wrong), all one has to do is ask whether they approve of it happening to them, or their family?

If the answer is “No,” then the probability of what is transpiring is almost certainly immoral, and obviously wrong. It is not complicated for individuals of conscious in search of moral clarity.

If we compromise our values for money, then we more easily fall victim to manipulation. When money becomes tight and the cost of food, housing, utilities, education, healthcare, health insurance and everything else are inflated, cash strapped communities will see bonuses as a lucrative incentive, instead of the wretched, demoralizing, immoral and illegal operations that they are.

Although money is necessary, all money isn’t good money. There are still honorable ways of earning it. In The New Testament, Jesus asks, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36 KJV.
